Handcrafted, Ethical Design by Alamwar Textiles
Yesterday, I discovered Alamwar, a textile warehouse in Peoria, IL that works with marginalized women in rural India to preserve ancient crafts like hand dyeing, weaving, embroidery, and fabric painting. Alamwar artisans print on natural fabrics using hand-carved wooden printing blocks to create collections ranging from traditional to thoughtfully modern. The textiles are beautifully crafted heirloom pieces that blend flawlessly with a range of design styles and that is what we're about.
Designing your home using handcrafted and ethical pieces might mean decorating at a slower pace and staring at empty walls for a year, but finding treasures like this is part of the fun. These items will be passed-down through generations, collecting stories along the way. Without them, a room lacks depth and soul - and those are two things you can't buy.
