March Book Review

Rules of Civility

I chose this book because I recently read A Gentleman in Moscow from the same author, Amor Towles, and really liked it. Rules of Civility was no different – the characters were well developed, the story was intriguing, and the writing had that extra Towles zhush.

The novel follows heroine Katey as her circumstance evolves over the course of a year in 1938. I recommend picking this one up if you like jazz dives, posh restaurants, and chance encounters.

The Four Agreements

Everyone should read this. And then re-read it every so often for continued personal growth and self-awareness. The Four Agreements could (and should) change your attitude, relationships, and generally the way you move through your life. These are the four agreements (Personally, I find #2 to be the most challenging):

  1. Be impeccable with your word.
  2. Never take anything personally.
  3. Don’t make assumptions.
  4. Always do your best.

Origin

In the spirit of transparency, I’m admitting to reading a Dan Brown book. The writing is mostly terrible, but his books, including Origin, are a weekend page-turner when I need one, and I choose to look past the writing for the art, travel, and mystery. If you have a recommendation for a well-written book that encompasses those things, I’m all ears!
