What is First Friday?
First Friday is a public art event that takes place on the first Friday of every month, in cities across the United States. The idea is centered around power in numbers – galleries pool their openings together in an effort to attract people downtown to enrich art communities.
In our opinion, First Friday is one of the best ways to discover emerging artists. Galleries seem to have a lower barrier to entry on these nights, putting people more at ease walking into a venue that typically feels high brow.
First Friday is a free event and typically the artists are there and in their element, so say hello! You can expect drinks and entertainment at some galleries, and restaurants may keep their doors open later to accommodate the crowds. We recommend inviting a group of friends and making a night of it. We also recommend buying art!
